We attended a charity festival this summer where we delivered fun, themed, dance workshops for children. (Some adults got involved too!) The sun was shining, the music was playing, and everyone was in high spirits.
For two days, we were set up in a tent with a sound system and stage, to deliver dance workshops as an extra activity for the children to get involved in. It was a really great way to keep them occupied and entertained! Myself, Tilly (an A.Y. Dance instructor) and Sandra (marketing) were all there to help run the workshops. Every half hour a newly themed dance workshop would take place inviting children, and parents, to come along and learn a routine and perform at the end!
We kept the workshops rolling, with myself and Tilly taking it turns to teach. It was the best way to keep on top of it and to give ourselves a well-deserved break in between! I taught the workshops; ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Street Dance’, Tilly taught the workshops; ‘Spice Girls’ and ‘Little Mix.’ Both of shared between teaching a ‘Bollywood’ style workshop. You can imagine how well some of these themes went down with the children! Especially as some of the music was being performed by some great tribute acts at the festival too.
All ages, boys and girls, joined in throughout the two days. With some very keen participants coming back for a second, or sometimes third, session of the day! With all abilities welcome. We even took some requests for songs, where the children could have a dance and freestyle it out!
The weekend went very quickly, as you can imagine! But, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it was great to do something a bit different. We are definitely looking forward to doing some more of these next summer! So watch this space!
